Jeremy Dickerson

Partner - Intellectual Property

Email: jeremy.dickerson@burges-salmon.com

I joined Burges Salmon in March 2006 as a Partner specialising in Intellectual Property. Prior to that I was Head of the IP Group at DLA Piper in London and had worked in London for my whole career going back to 1990.

After some 16 years working in London, and given that I was brought up in Bath, my wife and I decided that we wanted to move out of London back to the West Country to bring up our young children. It was an obvious move for me given my connections to the South West.

I therefore specifically targeted Burges Salmon as what I perceived to be the leading law firm in Bristol. I contacted the then Managing Partner direct and did not go through an agency. I had, of course, heard of Burges Salmon and knew of its reputation so it was an obvious choice for me to make an approach to the Firm. I was not responding to an advertised job, but hoped to persuade Burges Salmon that given my track record in the IP profession I would be an attractive recruit.

I found the whole recruitment process very friendly and thorough. Given that I already had contacts in Bath, I did not require the firm's assistance with my move, but such assistance would certainly have been available.

There is no question that my work/life balance has improved whilst I still maintain a very high quality level of work. I have not found that my move to the South West has in any way affected my ability to attract and keep clients.

Please do not hesitate to contact Jeremy Dickerson if you would like more information about the Intellectual Property team or relocating from London as a Partner.
