I applied to Burges Salmon for a training contract whilst in the second year of my Law and Economics degree. Having attended a vacation placement at a City firm, I decided that working life in London wasn't for me. I had heard great things about Burges Salmon and Bristol and was delighted when my application was successful.
Following the two year training contract, I elected to qualify into the firm's highly regarded Property department. As a junior property lawyer I was not pigeon-holed into a specialised area, but was instead allowed a broad experience of investment, finance, landlord and tenant, and development work.
Shariah (Islamic law) and particularly Islamic finance is an area in which I am personally very interested. Over the last few years, the firm has been amazingly supportive in giving time and resources to help turn my interest into a practice area which is now taking off. I have found the firm to be extremely flexible and progressive – a place where individuals are encouraged to make their mark in an understanding and supportive environment.
