The ICO has issued enforcement notices against The Carphone Warehouse and its sister company, TalkTalk Telecom, following complaints from consumers about the companies' practices relating to the processing and storage of personal customer information. The ICO's investigation revealed that both companies had opened customer accounts in the wrong names and passed inaccurate information to credit-reference and debt-collection agencies.

Security failings had also led to customers being able to view other customers' account details online. The ICO has ordered both companies to improve their practices or face prosecution.
