The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has told the welsh public bodies that the Data Protection Act (DPA) does not prevent information sharing, even between organisations. The ICO stated that the DPA is "a valuable framework for sharing information between or within organisations and should not be seen as a barrier". The ICO pointed out that data protection is often used as a reason for not sharing information and that this is not in fact the case.

At a conference on 23 april on information sharing in the welsh public sector the ICO presented its approach to information sharing and discuss best practice in the public and private sector.
