Matthew trained at Burges Salmon and qualified as a solicitor in 2001. He works in the Commercial Disputes department and is a core member of the firm's Corporate Turnaround and Insolvency team.
He advises office holders, companies and individuals in all types of banking, financial and insolvency related matters. He also has substantial experience of advising majority and minority shareholders in shareholder disputes. Recent examples of work include:
- advising a major bottled drinks distributor in a £1 million claim against the administrators of a chain of hotels
- advising a group of companies in the energy sector in an ICC arbitration concerning a $6 million claim relating to the funding of an oil project in Iran
- advising English shareholders and directors in a dispute with Belgian shareholders and directors in a jointly owned company in the power sector.
