Ann joined Burges Salmon in 1998 and is dual qualified as a Solicitor and Chartered Civil Engineer. Ann works in the Commercial Disputes and Construction Department and specialises in:
- Health and Safety including Corporate Manslaughter
- Transport - Rail and Bus
- Regulatory Law
At the heart of Ann's work is support to clients in infrastructure businesses in particular the transport and construction sectors. She has substantial experience of advising clients following accidents and during police and other regulatory authorities investigations. She has also been actively involved in the development of the Corporate Manslaughter and Homicide Act 2007 and frequently provides training and briefing to executive teams on the impact of this legislation. Recent examples of her work include:
- Advice to the Institution of Civil Engineers on its guidance to Designers on the new Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007
- Advice to construction and other companies on the implications for corporate structure of the Corporate Manslaughter and Homicide Act 2007 and response to sentencing proposals
- Advising a wide range of construction and other companies on health and safety investigations and prosecutions
- Representing a train operating company at an inquest into the death of passenger at a station
- Advising on property damage claims arising out of accidents
- Advising on a multi million pound loss of revenue claim
- Advising a national transport company on a series of regulatory appeals before the Secretary of State for Transport
