Paul is Head of the Disputes, Environment and Planning Department. He joined Burges Salmon in 1989 having trained in London with Freshfields. He became a partner in 1992.

Paul's practice is focused on acting for large corporate and financial institutions. He has substantial experience in advising in managed and test litigation. He is a Solicitor Advocate. Recent examples of work include:
- leading a team on behalf of a large financial services client pursuing professionals involved in a multi-million pound commercial lending fraud
- acting for a major legal expense insurer (DAS) in a test case against Royal & Sun Alliance in the Court of Appeal. Reported as Bee v Jenson
- acting for a credit hire company (Helphire) in a test case against the MIB seeking a reference to the European Court of Justice. The case is presently going to the Court of Appeal. Reported as McCall v Poulton.
