Tim heads the firm's pensions practice. He worked in industry for a time after graduating with a first class degree from Manchester University. He went on to pass the Common Professional Examination with Distinction, and to train in Lincolns Inn and the City of London. He joined Burges Salmon in 1988, became an associate in 1989 and a partner a year later.

He is a full member of the Association of Pensions Lawyers (APL), an adviser with the Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS) and is a member of the Society of Pensions Consultants (SPC) and International Pensions and Employee Benefit Lawyers Association (IPEBLA). Tim was awarded the Industrial Society prize for his paper on Communication and Management in the 1997 Pensions Management Institute exams and has spoken most recently as guest at the Actuarial Profession's seminar in Bristol on 'Current issues in Funding'.  Tim has been praised in Legal 500 for delivering a 'fantastic' service.

His recent work includes :-

  • working on a bid for part of the privatised nuclear industry
  • advising rail operating companies on bulk transfers and mergers under the Railways Pension Scheme in the context of changes in franchises
  • setting up two DC occupational pension schemes and a 'broadly comparable' occupational pension scheme for major clients
  • advising on a £1.2 billion merger of separate Groups of the Electricity Supply Pension Scheme 
  • advising trustees on Ombudsman and Regulator investigations 
  • merger of FirstGroup regional schemes into a national scheme  
  • acting as independent trustee of the Group 4 Pension Scheme, the National Museum of Wales Pension Scheme and other schemes of all types and sizes
