John joined Burges Salmon's Employment Pensions & Incentives unit at the beginning of 2009. He previously worked in the pensions unit at a leading corporate law firm in Ireland and prior to that at a large UK law firm.
John advises on a variety of issues relating to pension arrangements including scheme restructuring, the pension elements of corporate acquisitions/disposals and scheme administration.
Recent work includes:
- drafting consolidation documentation for defined benefit scheme
- advising pension scheme trustees in relation to proposal by employer to close defined benefit scheme to future accrual
- advising the purchaser of a corporate entity on structures for avoiding exposure to defined benefit scheme liabilities
- advising trustees on ongoing issues arising in connection with defined benefit schemes
