New joint venture at UK's largest bulk butter and powder processor

Burges Salmon acted for Milk Link Limited and Westbury Dairies Limited in relation to creation of a new tripartite joint venture to operate the UK's largest bulk butter and milk powder processing plant.  The new joint venture is between the UK's two leading dairy co-operatives First Milk Limited and Milk Link Limited and the Danish and Swedish co-operative Arla Foods amba.

The new joint venture will create a more economic milk balancing solution for all three businesses and secure Westbury's long term future for the benefit of the entire UK dairy industry.  All three parties will work together to develop the potential of Westbury to complement its existing skimmed milk powder and bulk butter production facilities. 

The arrangement including complex supply agreements and joint venture arrangements to ensure a balanced treatment of each of the three parties and the access to the Westbury facility for their milk whilst maintaining the ability of Westbury to operate as an efficient independent business.

The 12 strong lawyer team at Burges Salmon was lead by Alan Barr supported by Vanessa Joyner on corporate structure, Philip Davey on commercial supply agreements, John Dunn on property matters as well as other specialist lawyers.
