The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) today announced the completion of the sale of land adjacent to the nuclear site at Sellafield in Cumbria, comprising approximately 190 hectares (470 acres), for a value of at least £70 million.

The sale process commenced on 8 June 2009, after the sale of land adjacent to three of its other sites, Wylfa in Anglesey, Bradwell in Essex and Oldbury in Gloucestershire, was completed on 29 April 2009.

The NDA assessed bids from interested parties on the basis of value for money on a disposal of public assets. HM Government's approval was a condition precedent to completion of the lease.

Consideration was also given to whether the proposed use could have a detrimental effect on the NDA's adjoining landholding which is to be retained for ongoing operations.
