Nuclear

We have established unique national recognition in the nuclear regulatory and nuclear law market since entering it over a decade ago.

Our nuclear law team is familiar to the industry both nationally and internationally, and is equally familiar with the industry, its structure, regulatory regimes, political and commercial environments, and principal operators.

At the heart of the firm's nuclear law capability is a team of specialist nuclear lawyers who have amassed unrivalled experience and expertise with a proven track record in the four broad areas of its practice:

  • Decommissioning and Operational
  • Waste
  • New Build
  • International Regulatory and Governmental

Nuclear experience and expertise permeates the firm's traditional, strong practice areas, for example planning, property, health and safety, major projects and commercial, providing clients with a valuable 'one stop shop' for nuclear and nuclear-related issues delivered through a fully integrated team of cross-discipline lawyers.

We pride ourselves in developing long term relationships with our clients in order to understand fully their needs , objectives and operating environment.  This in turn ensures the team can provide proactive support and advice, thereby reducing our clients' exposure to both legal and commercial risk.

The team has a broad portfolio of nuclear clients (public and private sector) including the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), government regulators, site licence companies, contractors (all tiers) and other companies and organisations in a diverse range of sectors including energy, defence, healthcare, higher education and transport.

Our lawyers are actively involved in the industry's main associations and fora both in the UK and abroad, including the Nuclear Industries Association, the Nuclear Institute, and the World Nuclear Association.  Ian Salter has been an active member of the International Nuclear Lawyers Association since 1999.  We provided a chair to the Task Force on Nuclear Liability of the World Nuclear Association.
