Our media lawyers provide practical advice to clients on a variety of arrangements relating to sponsorship, exploitation of media rights, advertising and sales promotion; TV show clearance (show names, content and related merchandise); defamation issues (including in relation to TV personalities); ASA advice; and internet / social media issues.

Many of our team have developed strong commercial instincts through spending time advising on media law during in-house on secondment to key clients.

As well as our work in supporting on exploitation of media rights, our contentious team has a strong reputation and a successful record in respect of its work in both enforcing and defending media rights.

Experience

Advising the BBC and BBC Worldwide on all UK and EU trade mark applications and registrations including clearance advice, oppositions and enforcement issues.

Advising Conde Nast Limited, on trade mark and copyright enforcement actions for GQ and Vogue magazines against various media outlets, including The Sun, The Express and The Mirror and preparing author agreements and photographer terms for Conde Nast.

Acting for IGA Worldwide Inc, drafting and negotiating a worldwide content agreement with Electronic Arts Inc, for the integration of static advertising and the service of dynamic content across various EA titles.

Acting for Virgin on global sports sponsorship.

Advising the owner of the Discovery Channel on new UK channel launches, new programme names and content, merchandising opportunities and third party trade mark infringement issues, often arising from new licensing opportunities.

Advising the Racecourse Association on the exploitation of media rights and RaceTech on the delivery of HD coverage and integrity services at horse racing fixtures.

Advising high-end London restaurant on Michelin starred TV celebrity chef endorsement arrangements.

Providing regular advertising clearance advice on consumer promotions to leading dental care provider Bupa Dental Care and new private healthcare provider Virgin Care Private.
