05 May 2015

A team of Insurance sector experts from Burges Salmon will be attending the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA) Conference 2015 on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 May in Manchester.

The team advises insurance industry members, including brokers of all sizes, on specialist legal and regulatory issues. The team has a detailed understanding of the changing regulatory environment for brokers today. From reporting obligations, FCA investigations and skilled person reports to ensuring compliance with client money rules and anti-bribery laws the team helps brokers deal with their regulatory issues.

This year, Burges Salmon will be hosting an interactive Fringe Session, entitled 'When the FCA comes calling… are you prepared?', providing practical advice and tips for dealing with the FCA across the range of regulatory interactions.

Interactions with the FCA can range from routine information requests to self-reporting of regulatory breaches, requests for senior manager attestations and, at the extreme, formal regulatory investigation. Each of these engagements is important. If handled well it can lead to a clean regulatory bill of health and increased trust from the regulator. If handled badly, there may well be increased regulatory intervention and, at worst, regulatory sanction.

While different types of interaction require different approaches, being prepared is always essential.
