Burges Salmon has been shortlisted in the Law Firm of the Year category at the South West Insider Dealmakers Awards 2014.

The corporate team at Burges Salmon, which acts on high quality UK and cross-border transactions across a wide range of sectors for clients of all sizes, is one of the largest in the South West. The team has had a busy and encouraging year in 2013, working on over 100 transactions with an aggregate value exceeding £4 billion.

Burges Salmon attracts a broad range of South West, national and international clients, which includes work for companies such as Cobham, FirstGroup, Falcon Property Trust, Petrochem Carless Holdings, Milk Partnership, Oasis Healthcare, Stage Electrics and Westerleigh Group. Furthermore, the corporate team’s sector expertise spans a number of specialist areas including energy, financial services, food and drink, transport and logistics and leisure and recreation.

Burges Salmon recently advised the management of leading desserts manufacturer Ministry of Cake on its recent buyout and the transaction was named South West Business Insider's Deal of the Month for May 2014. The management team of Ministry of Cake agreed terms with listed food producer Greencore Group plc to acquire the business. Ministry of Cake has been a part of Greencore since 2008, and has seen its revenues rise to £25 million over that period.

Chris Ormrod, Chief Executive of Ministry of Cake, said: 'I have been delighted with the help and advice from Burges Salmon. At every step along a fairly tortuous way they gave us strong advice and support - and kept us bang on track with timings. The team there are a class act and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.'

Other notable South West work includes advising the management on the management buyout of Stage Electrics, the supplier of technical equipment to the entertainment, leisure and presentation industries, and advising the management of Westerleigh Group in connection with the acquisition of Westerleigh Group Holdings by Antin Infrastructure.

Richard Spink, head of corporate finance at Burges Salmon, said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted as Law Firm of the Year at the South West Insider Dealmakers Awards 2014. This reflects the range of opportunities that our clients have been seeing throughout 2013 across a number of industry sectors.”

In its seventh year for 2014, the Insider South West Dealmakers Awards recognise the wealth of talent from the region's professional services sector and highlights the best firms in the South West. The winners will be announced at a black tie ceremony at the Thistle Grand Hotel in Bristol on Thursday 26 June 2014.
