The Bribery Act 2010 is coming into force in April next year. Its impact for most businesses will be significant. As well as creating new offences for individuals, the Act will create a new strict liability corporate offence making commercial organisations liable if a person "associated with" the organisation makes a bribe anywhere in the world, either to a public official or a private person. However, it will be a defence for the organisation to show that it had in place "adequate procedures" designed to prevent bribery.

This new legislation means that all commercial organisations will need to be proactive in preventing corruption in their business activities. Businesses keen to be compliant with the Act need to be preparing now, and deciding what will be "adequate procedures" in its case.

We are holding seminars in Bristol on 19 October 2010 and London on 20 October 2010 where we will discuss the Act, how it will impact on your business and we will provide you with a Self-Assessment Questionnaire to help you decide what steps you need to be taking now to ensure your business is prepared.
