Alan Barr has been appointed Senior Partner of Burges Salmon, one of the UK’s top 50 law firms, following an uncontested election. He takes over the role on 1 May, 2011 from Stephen McNulty who completes his term of office at the end of April.

Alan is a Partner in the firm's Corporate Finance group and will continue to perform a significant fee-earning role. He will relinquish his post as the firm's Finance Partner to Paul Browne, a Partner in the firm's Real Estate group, also with effect on 1 May 2011 but will take over the chairmanship of the firm’s strategic body, its Partnership Committee.

Outgoing Senior Partner, Stephen McNulty said: “It has been a privilege to serve as the Senior Partner of Burges Salmon for the last four years, helping to steer the firm successfully through the difficult economic conditions of recent years and the move to our new state-of-the art HQ building at Bristol's One Glass Wharf. I am very pleased to be handing over to Alan with whom I have worked for many years and who I can confidently say is an excellent choice as my successor."

Incoming Senior Partner, Alan Barr commented: “I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead Burges Salmon as its Senior Partner for the next four years. I look forward to carrying on the excellent work that Stephen has done in his four years in this role and to working with our Managing Partner, Peter Morris."
