Overview

Chris is a commercial litigator with broad dispute resolution and regulatory experience. He has specialist expertise in the financial services sector and frequently acts for clients in respect of mis-selling claims and regulatory investigations. Chris also has regulatory experience in the sports sector.

Chris has advised clients in relation to matters before the High Court, Court of Appeal, adjudications, mediations, arbitrations and various disciplinary bodies. He also has in-house commercial experience from his secondment with the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, where he advised on regulatory matters, the applicability of the Compensation Rules and Judicial Review proceedings.

Experience
  • Advised UK authorised firm on FCA supervision and investigation in relation to pension transfer business.
  • Advised a public body in relation to a multi-million-pound claim for breaches of consumer protection legislation.
  • Advised a leading UK building society on a £100 million portfolio of professional negligence claims against commercial surveyors. 
  • Advised leading accountancy firms in relation to Financial Reporting Council investigations. 
  • Advised a global insurance company on a cross-border contractual claim brought by the supplier of medical insurance services for the late payment of commercial invoices. 
  • Represented the exclusive UK distributor for a global car manufacturer in relation to claims (civil and criminal) brought against it in connection with vehicles (including advocacy at Court).
  • Advising a foreign public body on multi-million-pound cross border claim against an investment bank.
  • Whilst seconded to the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, advising on commercial mis-selling claims involving consumers, insurance intermediaries and advisers, regulatory and judicial reviews. 
  • Advising The Premier League, Championship and Premier League clubs in relation to match day stadia and policing matters. This included negotiating special police service agreements with the Metropolitan Police Service for the London Premier League clubs, the successful challenge of the imposition of police charges in the High Court and Court of Appeal for Leeds United Football Club and advising clubs on licencing, health and safety and stewarding matters.
  • Advising The Football League in relation to financial fair play and other financial prudential matters before an arbitral panel and FA Rule K arbitration.
  • Represented athletes, agents, national and international governing bodies, teams, leagues and other stakeholders in relation to various matters including sponsorship, commercial, regulatory, disciplinary, public law licensing and stadia issues.
