Overview

Jeremy is the Chair of Burges Salmon's International Strategy Committee and also leads the firm's intellectual property and sports practices, helping clients arrive at the right solution to their issue, minimising impact and maximising success. He is supported by our extensive IP and dispute resolution teams with a proven track record in the highest-profile cases and cross-border, multi-sector expertise. Jeremy has extensive experience in all areas of contentious and transactional IP including trade marks, patents and copyright. He has also worked widely in the areas of sponsorship, merchandising, advertising and sales promotion, defamation and internet issues.

Jeremy is a member of most leading IP organisations including CIPA, ITMA, MARQUES, AIPPI, PTMG and ECTA and is a Committee Member of the INTA.  He is recognised as an expert in trade mark law by Chambers UK, "Who's Who Legal" and "World Trade Mark Law Report".

Jeremy is a regular speaker and writer on IP issues and is a guest lecturer on passing off and trade marks on the Oxford University IP Diploma course.

  • Acting for Victoria’s Secret in the Court of Appeal in the claim by Thomas Pink relating to its brand PINK.
  • Representing Discovery Channel in major UK litigation relating to its ‘Discovery History’ Channel launch.
  • Representing Limited Brands Inc and its subsidiaries Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works and Henri Bendel in UK and international trade mark disputes and trade mark oppositions.
  • Representing the Harrods Group and Virgin on international brand protection issues.
  • Representing numerous clients including Harrods and Virgin on domain name and company name recovery proceedings.
  • Acting for clients including Discovery Channel, Victoria's Secret and Jack Wolfskin on UK and CTM trade mark oppositions.
  • Advising Starbucks on numerous new brand launches and counterfeit product issues in the UK.
  • Advising a number of clients on global IP registration and strategy issues.
  • Advising Gunn & Moore on its sponsorship of international cricket players including Michael Vaughan, Marcus Trescothick, Herschelle Gibbs, Jonathan Trott and Joe Root.
  • Acting on a number of anti doping cases in the equestrian field before the FEI and CAS including representing the Saudi Equestrian team and Jock Paget.
