Overview

Rupert trained with Burges Salmon and is a partner in the firm's corporate finance team.

His practice covers all areas of corporate finance, focusing on mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures. He also advises on a full range of equity market transactions, as well as company law, regulatory issues and corporate governance. He works for a wide range of private and public companies on both UK and cross-border transactions.

Rupert heads the firm's hotels team as well as being heavily involved in the transport team.

Clients note he gives ‘very clear and pragmatic advice, and is always willing to roll his sleeves up to push the deal over the line’, and that ‘it’s great to have him in your corner when negotiating an M&A deal.’

  • Advising FirstGroup plc on a year-long disposal programme of UK bus businesses, raising in excess of £120 million.
  • Advising YTL Hotels on a number of UK acquisitions, including The Gainsborough Hotel, Bath, Monkey Island Hotel and Thermae Spa. 
  • Advising Principality Building Society on the sale of its Peter Allen estate agency business.
  • Advising on the sale of Snow & Rock to Cotswold Outdoor, having previously advised on its acquisition and subsequent disposal to LGV.
  • Advising Brownsword Hotels on all of its UK acquisitions (including the acquisition of four hotels from the Von Essen group and Gidleigh Park), as well as providing ongoing operational advice.
