Overview

Thomas is a senior associate in the firm's real estate team having joined the firm in 2015.

Thomas acts for corporate and institutional clients as well as private individuals. His main focus is on rural and agricultural property transactions, but he also advises on general commercial real estate matters, transactions involving the commercial and residential development of land and secured lending instructions. 

Thomas is a member of the Agricultural Law Association.

Experience
  • Advising The Crown Estate on the sale of numerous freehold properties, including sales forming part of the larger estate disposals at Gopsall and Taunton often to sitting tenants and involving sub-sales, overage arrangements and the taking of options to re-purchase. 
  • Advising landowners in the sale of agricultural land for residential development and the sale and development of agricultural land for commercial purposes, as well as acting for funders in taking security over property.
  • Advising, as part of a wider team and over several years, a company established by a farming family in connection with the ongoing development of agricultural land as a business park. Acting for the company in the acquisition of the land, charging it to a bank to secure funding and the sale of units to end users with service charge provisions for maintenance of the common parts of the business park by a management company.
  • Acting for a family-owned farming company in connection with the sale to a developer of agricultural land with outline planning permission for a medium-sized residential development. The sale was complex and included deferred payment and inter-creditor arrangements and two overage agreements.
  • Acting for a family farming partnership in connection with its purchase for several million pounds of farmland from two separate sellers.
  • Acting on numerous agricultural landlord and tenant matters, including advising landlords on taking surrenders of Agricultural Holdings Act 1986 tenancies.
