Thank you for discovering A Drop of Culture on the Giraffe About Town trail!

For every check-in at our sculpture, we will donate £1 to The Yard.*

The Yard is a Scottish charity that supports disabled children and young people aged 0-25 through adventure play. Since 1986, it has offered creative and inclusive play experiences in a well-supported environment, alongside wraparound support for the whole family.

The Yard offers a varied programme of drop-in, respite and transition youth clubs, early years, specialist sessions with schools, family play sessions, and inclusive play and disability training. At the heart of everything it does is child-led free play.

The Yard creates beautiful havens for play for disabled children, but even more than that, opportunities for fun, friendship and community building. It also provides Support and a sense of belonging, somewhere to feel safe to take risks, a place of understanding without judgement and a vital lifeline for whole families.

Its flagship centre in Edinburgh was refurbished by BBC's DIY SOS The Big Build in 2012, followed by the opening of The Yard Dundee in 2015 and The Yard Fife in 2016. The Yard is also looking into expanding into the West of Scotland.

If you would like to find out more about The Yard or pop in for a coffee and meet its fantastic team, visit 22 Eyre Place Lane, Edinburgh, EH3 5EH, which is only a 15-20 minute walk from Princes Street (directions and opening times can be found here).
