Professional Apprentices

Where will you work?

The Level 3 Apprenticeship will last for 18 months. During the initial 12 month period, you will be given the opportunity to work in three different departments. You can choose between HR, Marketing, IT, Finance or Project Management. We will then ask you to decide which area you would like to spend your final six months - which in most cases will be where you continue your studies and ultimately, your career. 

Who will you work with?

We will make sure that you have plenty of support whilst you are with us. We understand that it may be a little daunting to move departments every four months, but you will be well looked after by the team manager. You will also be allocated a central point of contact for the 18 month period as well as a 'buddy' who will both be on call for any questions you may have about life at the firm.


You will be given work that is appropriate to the Business Administration Level 3 Apprenticeship. The tasks will vary depending on the department you are in, but are likely to involve:

Human Resources

  • preparing HR related documentation (for example, contracts and letters)
  • assisting the recruitment team in arranging interviews and assessment centres
  • helping the Learning & Development and Responsible Business teams to arrange a wide variety of events


  • helping to plan, and attending corporate events
  • working with the Business Development teams on a wide range of matters
  • assisting the Digital Marketing team with social media and website related tasks


  • supporting our people with their IT related issues and fixing individual problems
  • gain an understanding in the more specialist areas of IT (including Infrastructure and Integration)


  • help the team to produce bills accurately
  • work alongside our revenue controllers to understand debt management
  • assist in invoice management

Project Management

  • working alongside our Project Managers to understand project methodology
  • take part in project meetings 
  • prepare project related material (for example, agendas, minutes and action plans)

You will start your Apprenticeship by learning the basics (and will have plenty of support in doing so). As time goes on you will experience different areas of the firm, diversify your workload and increase your level of responsibility. By the end of the Apprenticeship you will have developed a thorough understanding of what it is like to work in a top commercial law firm.


We will pay you a competitive starting salary of £16,000 pa.

In addition to this, you won't have to pay for any of your study and you will be able to take advantage of all of our benefits and rewards.

What does an Apprenticeship involve?

On the job and class room learning, apprenticeships give first-hand insight into life at Burges Salmon and open doors to various Business Professional roles including HR, Marketing, IT, Finance and Project Management.

How many Apprenticeships do you offer?

We are looking to recruit four Business Professional Apprentices to join us in September 2019.

How long is the programme?

The programme will last for 18 months initially, with the option to specialise in a chosen department and further your career at Burges Salmon.

What does the programme involve?

The programme involves completing a Level 3 Business Administration course, with the chance to continue your studies in your chosen department and gain industry recognised qualifications.

We are based in the centre of Bristol, five minutes' walk from Bristol Temple Meads with excellent public transport links.

    Successful applicants begin their 18 month Apprenticeship.
