Sheila Blackburn Secretary – Private Client and Wealth Structuring

Overview

I joined Burges Salmon at the age of 20 as a junior secretary in the real estate department. I have had various roles since I joined Burges Salmon – real estate secretary, central secretary (covering long term illness and periods of maternity leave) and I am currently working as a secretary in private client and wealth structuring (PCWS) for four solicitors, one of whom is a partner.

My daily roles vary from typing to PA work. I regularly produce lengthy documents, PowerPoint presentations and maintain all my solicitors' diaries, including booking appointments/lunches and managing their filing systems.

As well as my job as a secretary in the PCWS Department I am also on the London team which means if secretarial support is required in London I can be called upon to work in our London office. Burges Salmon's location is convenient for cycling to work, with showers, lockers and bike storage, provided in the basement of the building.

Burges Salmon also offers many social events and there is a social club which offers many subsidies and trips/parties. I am the secretary of the social club and take full advantage of all that is on offer.

As well as social events, Burges Salmon gets involved with the local community I am enjoying my role as a reading buddy at a local school helping to improve a young boy's reading ability.

Although I have notched up many years at Burges Salmon, I still find the job fresh and challenging due to its varied nature. I am proud to say I work for Burges Salmon and as well as being my job, I have made great friends here. The firm has contributed to my social life and given me the opportunity to give something back to the community I live in.
