International overview

We have considerable experience in the Asia Pacific region, which includes work for both private and corporate clients who are based in the region investing in the UK and for clients seeking to do business there. We have lawyers fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and other Asia Pacific dialects. This allows us to speak with our clients in their native language, unlocking language barriers.

Investing into the UK

With our partner-led and relationship-based service, we are able to provide specialist legal advice to international clients on UK inward investment opportunities at affordable prices.

Our experience of working over many years with clients based in Asia Pacific enables us to understand how Asia Pacific based clients and investors operate. Working with our clients, we have guided them through making first-time and repeat investments into the UK.

Our focus on UK inward investment is aligned with our key sectors - real estate, infrastructure, and energy and private wealth.

Providing legal services across the Asia Pacific region

For our clients looking to invest in the Asia Pacific region, we have well established relationships with market leading independent law firms in all the major Asia Pacific jurisdictions. Working with those firms, we offer an integrated legal service of the highest quality across the region.

Our lawyers make regular trips to the region – meeting our clients, attending international conferences relating to our key sectors of real estate, infrastructure, and energy and private wealth and visiting the independent law firms that we partner with.

International experience

Advising a global US business on a major HR/employment project relating to the implementation of a psychometric assessment for recruitment and promotion purposes and IT policies. This involved co-ordinating advice from 23 separate jurisdictions and assimilating it into one report for the client, as well as managing the legal spend and producing one invoice in US$. Jurisdictions included Europe, Asia, South America and the US.

Advising on the UK aspects of a multi-jurisdictional transaction involving the acquisition by CMST Development Co of a majority stake in Henry Bath & Son Limited from commodities trader Mercuria Energy Group Ltd. The matter involved supporting Fangda Partners alongside law firms in the US, Singapore and the Netherlands.

Advising the Mayor of London and the Greater London Authority on plans for the regeneration of a 35 acre site in London’s Royal Docks. The £1 billion deal will re-instate the Royal Docks as a commercial and trading centre for the 21st century, delivering around 20,000 full-time jobs and boosting local employment in Newham by 30 per cent according to the GLA. The deal is also one of the first direct investments by a Chinese developer in London’s property market and will eventually be home to more than 3.2 million square feet of high quality work, retail and leisure space – becoming London’s third business district. This was a UK and Asia matter.
