Burges Salmon is pleased to announce that it has promoted Sian Edmunds, from the firm’s Food, Farming and Land team, to partner.

The promotion, effective from 1 May 2014, reflects the firm’s continued growth in the Food, Farming and Land sector.

Sian Edmunds will become a partner in the firm’s Disputes and Litigation team specialising in advising the food, agriculture and agri-business sector. As a key member of the firm’s Food, Farming and Land sector group, Sian provides expert advice on contentious matters to all areas of the food supply chain.

Sian commented: 'I am pleased to have the opportunity to continue contributing to the ongoing growth and success of the firm's nationally renowned Food, Farming and Land practice. We act for some of the most significant and interesting organisations in the sector and I very much look forward to building on this and continuing to provide them with excellent client service.'

Examples of recent experience include:

  • acting for The Crown Estate in the management of its rural land portfolio and advising on strategy and mitigation of risk
  • acting for a landowners and tenants on agricultural tenancy matters, including contested rent reviews, agricultural succession tenancy claims and notices to quit
  • acting for a major seed breeder and supplier in a challenge in the High Court and at arbitration on its standard terms and conditions of trade
  • advising a feed manufacturer on a contested feed safety issue
  • acting for food producers, processors, manufacturers and suppliers on contractual disputes, food safety and product liability issues (including regulatory advice)
  • acting for members of farming partnerships in complex, high value farming partnership/trust/agricultural tenancy disputes
  • advising co-operatives, producer groups, processors and numerous other dairy businesses on compliance with the UK Dairy Voluntary Code of Conduct and on the terms of milk supply contracts.

The head of Burges Salmon’s Food, Farming and Land team, William Neville, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Sian as a new partner to the team.
