Overview

Danny is a senior associate in the corporate team. He specialises in joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance.

Danny has considerable experience in the clean energy, and infrastructure space, and is a core member of the firm’s Energy and Utilities sector team. He advises developers, utilities, investors and funders on the full suite of clean energy technologies, as well as on broader net zero and sustainability projects.

During 2021, our corporate energy team completed 61 clean energy M&A deals, with an aggregate deal value of £931 million. At the end of last year, our multi-award winning E&U sector team was named as a finalist in the ‘Outstanding Legal Adviser’ category at the inaugural Inspiratia Energy & Sustainability Awards 2021.

Experience
  • Advising funds managed by Octopus Renewables on multiple M&A deals involving biomass, solar, wind, pumped storage hydro, and reserve power assets.
  • Advising Green Investment Group on its M&A activity, including on the acquisition of an initial 187MWh battery storage portfolio from developer Capbal, and on the acquisition of another BESS project.
  • Advising Balance Power on their joint development arrangements with TAG Energy, with regards to a 500MW portfolio of development battery storage assets, and also on their divestment of a separate portfolio of development BESS assets to a publicly listed entity.
  • Advising JLEN, the Foresight advised environmental infrastructure investment fund, on the acquisition of Gigabox South Road Limited, which holds the development rights to a 50 MW lithium-ion battery storage project in Dundee, Scotland.
  • Advising Foresight Solar Fund Limited and JLEN on their joint venture acquisition of a 50MW consented BESS project in Melksham, UK.
  • Advising Gresham House on their continued M&A activity to acquire consented battery storage sites and on the subsequent sale of operational sites to Gresham House’s listed BES fund.
  • Advising a leading BESS developer on a suite of investment documentation in relation to a pipeline of battery storage projects to be financed by a collaboration of institutional investors.
  • Advising the shareholders of Yorkshire Hydropower Holdings Limited on the sale of co-located battery and hydro projects in Yorkshire.
  • Advising EDP Renewables, the fourth largest renewable energy producer in the world, on their portfolio acquisition of onshore wind, and solar PV projects in the UK from German based Vento Ludens.
  • Advising Octopus Renewables on the acquisition and sale of a number of onshore wind farm projects at various stages of development, including Muirhall South, Burton Wold South, Royd Moor, and Ovenden Moor wind farms.
  • Advising a multinational utilities company (confidential) on the proposed acquisition of two development remote island wind farms in the Orkney Islands.
  • Advising Statkraft, the Norwegian state-owned power company, on its sale of its 30% stake in the 402 MW Dudgeon offshore wind farm, to China Resources Holdings Company, for £555m.
  • Advising Statkraft on its sale of its 40% stake in the 317 MW Sheringham Shoal offshore wind farm, to UK fund manager Equitix, for £558m.
  • Advising Velocita Energy Developments Ltd on its £191.5m disposal of a portfolio comprising three under-construction onshore wind projects in eastern France to Canada’s Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. and Desjardins Group Pension Plan.
  • Advising Ørsted Energy on its sale of a 50% stake in the 258 MW Burbo Bank Extension UK offshore wind farm project to Danish pension provider PKA and KIRKBI A/S, parent company of the LEGO Group.
  • Advising Anesco, a market leader in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, on its sale to Aksiom Services Group, a joint venture between Ara Partners, and Aksiom Group.
  • Advising Metka EGN, a leading EPC contractor specialising in utility scale solar PV projects, on its acquisition of a 50MWp solar project to be constructed in the Midlands.
  • Advising P3P Partners on its acquisition of 100% of the equity interests in the FiT-supported Arreton Valley solar farm, supported by a project finance loan facility from Santander UK plc.
  • Advising Low Carbon on its investment into, and partnership with Verus Energy, in a 38MW waste to energy power plant to be constructed in the West Midlands.
  • Advising Osaka Gas, the major Japanese utility company, on its substantial strategic investment into challenger energy supplier, Igloo Energy.
  • Advising Vattenfall, the Swedish state-owned utility, on its acquisition of UK gas and electricity supply business ISupplyEnergy.
  • Advising Beauparc Utilities on its M&A programme in relation to their acquisition of recycling, landfill management, and logistics businesses in the UK.
  • Advising PKA, one of Denmark’s leading pension funds, on its acquisition of a 50% stake in the Teesside Renewable Energy Plant in the North East of England. The deal was awarded European Power Deal of the Year 2016 by PFI magazine.
  • Advising FernTrading limited on the acquisition of 16 reserve power projects from an institutional investor (confidential).
  • Advising the University of Oxford and Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on their exit from a property-owning JV with US health charity and research foundation the Mayo Clinic.
  • Advising Tiger Infrastructure Partners on its significant investment into Stellium datacenters. Stellium is the operator of one of the largest purpose built datacenter campuses in the UK, and a 25 mile fibre-optic ring in Newcastle.
  • Advising a multinational utilities company (confidential) on a JV investment with a leading house builder, as part of the solution for the decommissioning of a large scale power station in the Midlands.
  • Advising Octopus Renewables, Tiger Infrastructure Partners, Ørsted Energy, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners on their day to day corporate administration, primarily in respect of maintaining the statutory registers and assisting on internal reorganisations and restructurings.
