Overview

Georgina is an experienced trade mark practitioner and litigator in the intellectual property and media team. She specialises in brand protection and enforcement and manages Burges Salmon’s trade mark prosecution team. 

Georgina acts for clients in a diverse range of sectors, from major global brands, to entrepreneurial businesses, public sector bodies, and individuals.  

Georgina has a deep understanding of the media sector in particular, having recently spent a year in-house in BBC Studios’ Content & Brand Protection team, and prior to this she was seconded to the BBC’s IP Litigation team.

Georgina has been recognised as a “rising star” by World Trademark Review. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (CITMA) and The Association of European Trade Mark Owners (MARQUES).

Experience

•Managing global trade mark portfolios and devising global filing and enforcement strategies including clearing new brands for use and registration worldwide.

•Acting for L Brands, Inc. (the parent company of Victoria’s Secret) in respect of its EU and UK trade mark portfolios. Assisting with the clearance of marks, filings and oppositions, brand strategy in the UK and Europe, and international enforcement issues.

•Acting for Victoria’s Secret against Thomas Pink in trade mark infringement proceedings in the Court of Appeal, concerning Victoria’s Secret’s ‘PINK’ brand.

•Acting for Discovery Communications, Inc. (The Discovery Channel) in UK High Court proceedings brought by A&E Television Networks (owner of The History Channel) for trade mark infringement and passing off in respect of Discovery’s re-branding of its Discovery Knowledge channel to Discovery History.

•Acting for the Virgin Group on UK intellectual property matters, particularly infringing use online and in social media, as well as company name and domain name disputes.

•Handling various copyright matters including TV format claims.

•Advising on design infringement claims.

•Advising on anti-piracy and anti-counterfeiting strategies.

•Acting on a wide range of commercial disputes, often complex and high value in nature.

•Handling cases in the High Court, IPEC, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and at Judicial Review.

•Successfully resolving matters at mediation.
