Overview

John is a senior associate in the Planning and Compulsory Purchase team. He advises on planning issues, applications and appeals across a variety of sectors and has particular experience of highways and energy projects. John regularly acts for landowners and developers in drafting and negotiating planning and highways agreements, including s.106 and s.278 agreements, for a range of residential and mixed use developments. He also advises on compulsory purchase and has acted both for acquiring authorities and landowners.

John has extensive experience of nationally significant infrastructure projects and regularly advises on all aspects of development consent order applications, from the early stages of consultation through to appearing at hearings on behalf of his clients.

John’s recent work highlights include acting for Highways England in relation to a number of its nationally significant infrastructure projects and acting for DS Smith PLC in relation to the Kemsley K4 nationally significant infrastructure project.

  • Acting for a biogas company in relation to an operational anaerobic digestion facility, including complex planning and enforcement appeals culminating in an extensive public inquiry
  • Acting for numerous landowners and developers in relation to planning and highway agreements for sites across England, including developments of more than 1,000 dwellings
