Sam is a Senior Associate is the firm's energy, power and utilities team. He advises funders, developers, local authorities, waste contractors, fuel suppliers, large energy users and energy generators on a range of projects, contractual arrangements and regulatory issues in the energy, waste and low carbon sectors.

Sam has led teams advising on all types of renewable energy technology including solar, wind (on and offshore), biomass, biofuels, anaerobic digestion, waste to energy, wave and tidal energy, geothermal and hydro.

Sam is also developing a practice in electric vehicles and low carbon transport, advising electric vehicle charging point providers and producers of low carbon fuels. 
  • Advising funders, operators, developers and landowners including Wessex Water (GENeco), Octopus Investments and Biogen Greenfinch on development of and investment in anaerobic digestion projects (gas-to-grid biomethane and electricity generation). 
  • Advising clients including Peel Energy, Fortum Corporation and a US headquartered global industrial business on biomass and waste to energy projects including advanced thermal treatment technologies and production, and export, of fuel pellets from waste.
  • Acting for the Cayman Islands Government on their procurement of an all-islands waste treatment solution to include an energy from waste facility on Grand Cayman and remediation of existing landfills.
  • Advising Marks and Spencer plc on a wide range of energy issues, including: negotiating and advising on its long term 100% renewable electricity supply contracts for all stores in Great Britain, the acquisition of green gas certificates, deployment of the M&S Energy branded domestic energy supply, its award winning direct PPA/sleeving arrangements.
  • Advising Ingenious Investments as fund manager in respect of the acquisition and development of solar, wind, energy from waste and anaerobic digestion projects, including some of the first gas-to-grid biomethane projects in the UK.   
  • Acting for numerous local authorities, including Northampton Borough Council and Monmouthshire County Council on their procurement of waste collection and treatment and other environmental services. 
  • Advising electric vehicles charging point providers on installation of charging networks. 
  • Advising a low carbon fuels producer on the development of a biogas generation facility for use as a fuel.
