Overview

Zara is an associate in the firm’s construction and engineering team. She joined the firm in 2019 after having trained and qualified in the London office of a US firm.

Zara focuses on complex construction, engineering, infrastructure and energy disputes.

Her practice includes experience of conflict avoidance panels, adjudications, mediation and international arbitration. She has acted for employers and contractors nationally and internationally.

Contentious

  • Acting for a major UK rail provider on multiple adjudications in connection with compensation events and extensions of time.
  • Advising on station upgrade works for a rail company. Preparing submissions for a conflict avoidance panel and adjudication.
  • Advising a liquefied natural gas company in West Africa and its joint venture shareholders on the merits of pursing arbitration, acting in a mediation and providing strategic advice.
  • Acting for a liquefied natural gas company in West Africa and its joint venture shareholders in an UNCITRAL arbitration administered by the LCIA.
  • Acting for the project manager company in an LCIA arbitration in respect of a contract for the supply of goods and services for an LNG plant. 
  • Assisting in an LCIA arbitration in relation to a dispute concerning the refurbishment of a vessel and upgrade of a FPSO.
  • Acting for an oil and gas company in a dispute with its joint venture party in respect of sole risk operations including defending an application for injunction.
  • Acting for an oil and gas company in an ICC arbitration arising under a Joint Operating Agreement in respect of pre-emption rights.  
  • Preparing for litigation on behalf of a joint venture contractor against a national rail infrastructure provider. Advising on the merits of the claim.

  • Assisting with the negotiation and drafting of three FIDIC contracts in relation to a private wire cable installation for a biomass project connecting into a factory.
  • Assisting on an overarching framework agreement and call off conditions based on NEC3 Options C and E for a major UK rail provider.
  • Assisting with preparing documentation for £850 million mixed use regeneration project in Edinburgh.
  • Assisting with preparing ancillaries in relation to a Qatar based economic zones project.
