Overview

John is a senior associate in the Planning and Compulsory Purchase team. He advises on planning issues, applications and appeals across a variety of sectors and specialises in transport and renewable energy projects. 

John has extensive experience of nationally significant infrastructure projects and regularly advises on all aspects of development consent order applications, from the early stages of consultation through to appearing at hearings on behalf of his clients. He advises on compulsory purchase and has extensive experience advising strategic and local highway authorities on compulsory purchase orders under the Highways Act 1980. He has also advised on numerous rail orders under the Transport and Works Act.

John’s recent work highlights include advising National Highways on a number of its nationally significant infrastructure projects; advising Gloucestershire County Council on the M5 Junction 10 improvement scheme; and advising the Department for Transport on its decision making on numerous orders.

  • Acting for National Highways on the promotion of several compulsory purchase orders under the Highways Act 1980
  • Advising the Department for Transport on decision making on development consent orders and Transport and Works Act orders, including complex advice on habitats and EIA issues
  • Advising solar developers on the promotion of large scale solar projects via the development consent order process
