Maria is a director in the firm's construction and engineering team. She joined Burges Salmon in 2005. Maria advises a broad range of clients including property developers, investors, contractors, consultants, funders and public authorities.

She specialises in non-contentious construction and engineering law with a focus on real estate development and real estate finance.

Maria sits on the Leadership Council of Constructing Excellence South West and is a member of the Forum for the Built Environment. She previously chaired the south west branch of the National Association of Women in Construction and sat on its national committee.

  • Advising The Crown Estate on its portfolio including major redevelopments (value circa. £350 million) within its St James's Portfolio and the acquisition and redevelopment of various business parks and retail parks within its Regional Portfolio (including £130 million Silverlink Retail Park and a John Lewis Partnership warehouse and distribution facility at Magna Park).
  • Advising AEG (owners of the O2) on various projects within its portfolio including the joint venture development of a new 204,000 sq ft designer outlet at the O2.
  • Advising Devon County Council and East Devon District Council on the construction aspects and documentation of a new community building and school including associated roads and infrastructure (including public car parking areas) in connection with the delivery of a 3,000 house sustainable community.
  • Advising the University of Bristol in relation to the development of its National Composites Centre – a JV project to develop world-class expertise and industrial-scale facilities for the development of technologies for vehicles and renewable technologies.
  • Advising Wyevale on the development of a new garden centre involving a complex tri-partite arrangement with a major supermarket.
