Burges Salmon is pleased to announce the appointment of Malcolm Donald as a partner in its Energy Transition team in Scotland, further demonstrating the firm's commitment to the Scottish market and to delivering exceptional client service across the UK.

Prior to joining Burges Salmon, Malcolm was a partner at Stronachs LLP in Aberdeen, providing corporate and commercial advice on the acquisition/disposal of upstream energy assets, farm-in arrangements, data licensing and energy development projects.  With more than 20 years’ experience in both energy and corporate / commercial law, Malcolm also advises clients on all aspects of corporate law with particular expertise in M&A/transactional work, equity investments and start-ups.

Malcolm says: “As the Burges Salmon team, along with its Energy practice, continues to grow in Scotland, I’m pleased to be joining the firm at such an exciting time.  The firm has a terrific reputation in energy and decarbonisation projects and as the Scottish and Westminster Governments have recognised, whilst the oil and gas industry has a big challenge ahead in terms of the Energy Transition, there are also huge lessons in contracting, innovation and solutions that can be applied from the sector to facilitate new technologies such as floating wind, carbon capture and hydrogen.”

James Phillips, the Head of Burges Salmon’s Energy & Utilities Sector, concludes: “We are very fortunate to have a lawyer of Malcom’s calibre join the firm’s cross-sector Energy Transition team. The UK’s offshore energy sector has a huge part to play in delivering energy security alongside our vital journey towards Net Zero.”

Malcolm Donald joined Burges Salmon as a partner on 7 November 2022.
