Overview

Following qualification in 2008, Isobel worked as a pensions lawyer in private practice for over 8 years, providing advice to trustees and employers on a wide range of pensions issues. She then worked as an in-house lawyer at the Pension Protection Fund for over 6 years, specialising in pensions. She re-joined Burges Salmon as a Senior Associate in the Pensions Team in 2023.

Experience
  • Being the key internal legal adviser on a large scale project to implement significant changes to Pension Protection Fund compensation arising from court rulings.
  • Drafting briefing papers and decision letters for complex member cases at each stage of the Pension Protection Fund’s internal complaints process, and drafting submissions about the same to the Pension Protection Fund Ombudsman.
  • Advising the sponsoring employer on a bulk transfer of numerous historic defined benefit pension schemes into a newly established shell scheme.
  • Advising the employer representative company of an industry-wide defined benefit pension scheme on its duties to the participating employers.
