Overview

Ronnie is a director in the private client team, specialising in the provision of tax advice to high net worth and ultra-high net worth international individuals, financial institutions and international trust companies. He mostly advises individuals who are UK resident, but not UK domiciled on a variety of areas including:

  • personal taxation
  • planning for moving to or leaving the UK
  • taxation and planning in relation to trusts
  • succession planning 
  • and high value UK real estate structuring and taxation.

Ronnie also has extensive experience advising a number of international trust companies on the tax implications of their trust structures. 

Having completed the STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates (England & Wales) with Distinction, Ronnie is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He has also spoken at a number of STEP and Law Society events and has written for the STEP Journal. 

Ronnie was shortlisted as a finalist in the Young Practitioner of the Year category of the 2019/20 STEP Private Client Awards and was named as one of the eprivateclient Top 35 under 35 in 2021 and 2022.

Ronnie is also featured in the ‘Excellence’ category of the 2024 Private Client Global Elite Directory.

Experience
  • Assisting an ultra-high net worth UK resident non-UK domiciled individual with restructuring their worldwide assets, trust structures and foreign banking relationships ahead of becoming deemed-domiciled for UK tax purposes. 
  • Advising a ultra-high net worth individual and his family with tax planning, trust structuring and succession planning ahead of their move to the UK from South Africa, including working closely with the family’s lawyers in South Africa.
  • Advising a number of high profile companies in relation to their ATED (Annual Tax on Enveloped Dwellings) compliance arising from the ownership of UK residential property.
  • Advising trustees and individuals on the UK tax implications of recent changes to the taxation of non-UK domiciled persons and non-UK resident trusts.
  • Assisting Jersey trustees on the UK tax implications and UK tax reporting requirements as a result of numerous disposals of UK land holdings.
  • Assisting ultra-high net worth UK resident non-UK domiciled individuals with the administration of their worldwide assets and trust structures, including coordinating with foreign lawyers, financial institutions and corporate trustees.
  • Advising individuals in relation to their position under the UK's Statutory Residence Test, including the application of split year treatment and the temporary non-residence rules.
  • Assisting UK and foreign individuals with their UK Wills and coordinating with foreign lawyers to ensure a consistent and consolidated approach for their worldwide succession planning.
