Are you a student in Year 10 to Year 12 thinking about a business career?

If so, you might like to apply to our Bright Sparks Programme.

What does the programme involve?

The week long programme provides first-hand insight into the commercial world and includes a group project and spending time in a variety of departments.

What are the benefits?

The experience will help you to narrow down your career options and open your eyes to professional paths you may not have previously considered.

Our programme is tailor-made to give you a feel for what life is like at Burges Salmon whilst giving us a chance to get to know you. This means you will not only learn about the role of lawyers but also gain insight into other functions like Finance, IT, Human Resources, Marketing and Business Development.

While here, you will learn more about teamwork, organisational and presentation skills as well as quality, accuracy and attention to detail. You will also learn about confidentiality and how to deal with people at different levels of the firm, building confidence, commercial awareness and interpersonal skills.

Having work experience on your CV is a real advantage when you come to apply for jobs or higher education courses, illustrating valuable transferable skills such as initiative, adaptability and problem-solving.

How many places do you offer?

We offer between 24 and 28 placements each summer (depending on the number of applications received).

Please note the programme takes place at our Bristol headquarters.

What else?

We are a member of PRIME, an alliance of law firms and legal departments across the UK who are committed to broadening access to the legal profession amongst school-age students from less advantaged backgrounds. More details can be found on the PRIME website.

How can I apply?

Applications for Summer 2025 are now open.
