Tom is a Director in Burges Salmon’s Real Estate Finance team. He has considerable experience acting for both lenders and borrowers on a wide range of complex real estate finance matters. Tom regularly advises clients such as banks, debt funds and real estate investment funds on investment and development transactions across a variety of asset classes including office, retail and residential (including PRS).


Experience gained at previous firms includes:

  • Advising a real estate investment fund in relation to a c£100m loan facility for its acquisition of a portfolio of new build PRS assets in London.
  • Advising a debt fund on a c£75m accordion loan facility secured against an affordable housing portfolio.
  • Acting for a bank on a c£35m facility to a high profile international real estate investment firm to acquire a prime mixed use office and retail scheme.
  • Acting for a bank on a c£40m facility to develop a landmark city centre office scheme.
  • Advising a bank in relation to a c£40m loan facility secured against a PRS asset in London and advising on and negotiating intercreditor issues.
  • Acting for a challenger bank in developing a suite of standard form documentation for use on real estate finance transactions in the SME space and maintaining and managing that documentation suite.
  • Acting for a housing developer subsidiary of a high profile family office in connection with a c£15m development loan facility.
  • Advising a bank in connection with the sale of its real estate loan book.
