As a responsible business, we take deliberate action to minimise our environmental impact and to promote sustainable practices across our operations and community.
We actively support the transition to a low-carbon economy through our Net Zero services team, empowering our clients to drive decarbonisation across key sectors. Internally, our ISO-certified Environmental Management System and BSustainable network champion initiatives that raise environmental awareness and foster positive change among our people and our operations.
Through partnerships with community projects, conservation volunteering opportunities, and support for biodiversity initiatives, we build connections that extend beyond our firm. With a focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable procurement, and waste reduction, we aim to lead by example while working toward ambitious carbon reduction targets.
We aim for a year-on-year reduction in our carbon footprint and our approved science-based targets reflect our commitment to limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
By reducing emissions, improving sustainability across our offices, and engaging in high-quality carbon offsetting, we aim to reduce our Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, using 2019 as our baseline year.
We are founding members of the Legal Sustainability Alliance, underpinning our commitment to transparency in carbon reporting and providing leadership within the legal sector.
We work closely with our suppliers and favour local sourcing and Fair Trade. All our paper and print production is FSC sourced. Reducing all types of waste and improving recycling also remain high on our agenda.
Our offices in Bristol, Edinburgh and London were all awarded an ‘Excellent’ rating against BREEAM for energy consumption and incorporate some of the most sustainable technologies available.
We have pledged our support to the Legal Renewables Initiative and we have achieved 100% renewable electricity in our UK offices.
Burges Salmon has a Carbon Reduction Plan meeting the requirements of the Procurement Policy Note 06/21 and the relevant Technical Standard.
