No jab, no job – a step closer for care homes in England

A big government announcement yesterday that care home workers in England will be required, by law, to be vaccinated if they want to continue in their roles. Redeployment has been suggested as an option for those who don’t want to be vaccinated but this may be difficult to deliver on the ground. Employers are permitted to dismiss an employee where to continue to employ them would involve breaking the law but a fair process would still need to be followed which would include considering alternatives to dismissal. Without doubt, a complex issue for care homes to manage and another Covid curve-ball to add to the list.
