Where will you work?

You will be based in our Legal Service Delivery Centre during the first year of the apprenticeship. The Centre plays an integral role in supporting our legal departments and clients. In the second year of the apprenticeship you will complete four month ‘seats’ within 3 legal departments of your choice. This will give you an insight into different areas of law at Burges Salmon and the chance to work with a variety of high profile clients.

Who will you work with?

In the first year of your apprenticeship you will work within a team of paralegals and report to the team manager. You will be assigned a ‘buddy’ who will be a more senior paralegal within the team. They will provide support in respect of your work and guidance on life at the firm. In the second year of the apprenticeship you will be assigned an associate lawyer supervisor within each legal department. They will be responsible for delegating a wide range of work to you and will provide you with regular feedback.

Tasks

To start with you will be involved in a range of administrative level tasks that will give you exposure to a variety of work. These may include:

  • assisting with the opening, progress and closing of files
  • attending meetings and taking notes
  • managing data/records
  • reviewing documents
  • collating bundles for court
  • collating transactional documentation
  • carrying out research
  • handling confidential and sensitive information
  • understanding and utilising basic financial information
  • communicating both in writing and orally with people from across the firm.

You will start your apprenticeship by learning the basics. As time goes on you will experience different areas of the firm, diversify your workload and increase your level of responsibility. By the end of the apprenticeship you will have developed a wide range of invaluable transferable skills and have a thorough understanding of what it is like to work in a top commercial law firm .

Salary

We will pay you a competitive starting salary of £16,000 pa.
