Burges Salmon has today announced the opening of a wholly owned subsidiary office in Dublin, Ireland, from which its internationally renowned Intellectual Property practice will continue its EU trade mark offering after the Brexit transition period has ended (from 1 January 2021).

To lead its Dublin-based IP team, the firm has secured two highly experienced trade mark attorneys.

Louise Carey – dual qualified Irish solicitor and Irish/EU trade mark attorney – joins the firm from Tomkins with 30 years’ experience in EU and Irish trade mark law across both contentious and non-contentious intellectual property matters. Louise is highly respected in the IP community for her legal and business expertise and has lectured at the Law Society of Ireland, tutoring on its Intellectual Property diploma course.

Alison Brennan is a dual-qualified solicitor and trade mark attorney with experience advising on contentious and non-contentious trade mark matters in the EU and Ireland.

Burges Salmon Managing Partner Roger Bull comments: “We’re delighted to be cementing our reputation as a strategic player in the European intellectual property market with the opening of a subsidiary office in Dublin.

“The launch of our Ireland-based IP practice demonstrates our commitment to the needs of our clients as we continue to represent them on EU trade mark matters and wider intellectual property portfolio protection in the post-Brexit market. Our EU offering and ability to assist clients in the Irish market will also enable us to develop our existing client relationships as well as supporting the growth of our internationally recognised practice.”

Jeremy Dickerson, head of Burges Salmon’s IP team, adds: “It’s a very exciting time for Burges Salmon and for the practice. We’re proud to represent a number of high-profile, global brands and our subsidiary office in Dublin means that we can continue to deliver our market-leading expertise and insight in the EU across a range of industry sectors after the Brexit transition period has ended.”
