Sponsored by Burges Salmon, the report ‘Carillion: two years on’ addresses the collapse of Carillion and provides a stocktake of whether changes have been implemented to the way the government outsources services in the years since 2018. In the paper, the Institute for Government calls on the government to provide further political support and investment if ‘another Carillion’ is to be avoided.

Burges Salmon partners John Houlden and Matthew Ramus have extensive experience in the public sector and worked with the Institute for Government to produce the report, sharing their expertise as industry experts and providing views on the current use of the government’s Outsourcing Playbook.

John says: “We were delighted to be able to support the Institute for Government research team on its report. The issue is important as it is central to how government delivers many of its functions and impacts upon the lives of each and every one of us.

“The report shows that good progress has been made in implementing the Outsourcing Playbook and the principles it espouses, but there are opportunities to do more.”

The full report can be found on the Institute for Government website here.
