Burges Salmon recently celebrated B-Innovative week, a firm-wide event organised by the Innovation and Digital Learning teams that takes a deeper dive into the world of innovation and legal technology. With this year’s spotlight on GenAI, the week began with the firm launching a series of GenAI e-learning modules, helping to amplify colleague’s knowledge and understanding of the potential it holds in enhancing legal service delivery whilst also addressing challenges around its use.

The firm then welcomed keynote speaker, Victoria Albrecht from Springbok AI, who unpicked the latest GenAI buzzwords and opened up conversations about the opportunities these technologies can create within the sector. Conversations continued throughout the week, with lawyers from the firm’s Technology sector group facilitating insightful discussions around the impact of GenAI on clients, what their concerns are and how Burges Salmon is well positioned to support.

There were plenty of other sessions for people to get stuck into, including an AI Knowledge Café exploring the latest legal resource GenAI developments as well as an interactive and hands-on prompting workshop, hosted by the Digital Learning and Innovation teams who shared their experiences on the importance of crafting effective prompts to get the best results from GenAI applications.

Emma Sorrell, Innovation Manager at Burges Salmon, comments: “We embrace digital change by being curious about, and open to, new technologies and different ways of working. It’s what makes us a future-facing firm and B-Innovative week is always a fantastic opportunity to celebrate client-centric innovation as well as amplify our knowledge and understanding of technologies that are shaping the future of our sector.

There’s understandably a huge amount of excitement around GenAI and, as real-life applications in our sector continue to evolve, a key focus of the week, in support of the firm’s GenAI strategy, was to upskill, inspire, and encourage our people to think creatively about its potential to help us deliver more streamlined and enhanced legal services. The engagement this year demonstrated a high-level of intrigue and enthusiasm across the firm, which was pleasing to see!”
