Overview

Chris is recognised as a UK leading lawyer with a track record of success in complex and business critical commercial disputes.

He has received national recognition in transport, procurement and health and safety and is closely involved in policy, strategic and operational work, helping develop the firm's strong specialist practices in each of those areas.

Chris's extensive experience includes procurement challenges, judicial review, strategic safety issues including advising on many major UK rail accidents, economic and safety regulation, public inquiries and inquests.

He is closely involved in new highways and vehicle technologies and the legal solutions for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (including driverless cars).

A key leader within our Dispute Resolution team, Chris works with his colleagues to help clients arrive at the right solution to their issue, minimising impact and maximising success. He is supported by our extensive dispute resolution practice with a proven track record in the highest-profile cases and cross-border, multi-sector expertise.

Experience
  • Advising on major procurement challenges (and judicial review) including the successful defence by Eurostar of a three year challenge to its procurement of its 700 million new generation very high speed train fleet and the West Coast Rail franchise and a number of challenges in the Healthcare, Technology and Environmental sectors.
  • Leading a team that advised on all major UK rail accidents since privatisation and on major incident readiness and response.
  • Advising on the regulatory and liability regimes relating to Intelligent Transport Solutions, Connected and Autonomous Vehicles and Highways technology including the Venturer and Flourish consortiums.
  • Advising on regulatory hearings (Office of Rail & Road) relating to rail open access applications on the East Coast Main Line.
  • Conducting complex public inquiries and inquests as lead partner and as advocate including the Ladbroke Grove (Cullen) Inquiries, the Redfern Inquiry into the UK Nuclear industry and a number of Article 2 inquests relating to custody facilities.
