Chris is an experienced projects and rail lawyer with a track record of managing and advising on complex new rolling stock procurement projects, franchise mobilisations and day to day operational matters. He has acted for both the private and public sector on rolling stock matters and is experienced in all aspects of rail regulation in the UK.

Experience
  • Advising FirstGroup on the procurement of five new Hitachi AT300 electric multiple units to operate a new open access rail service between Edinburgh and London.
  • Advising Translink on the procurement of 21 new intermediate Class 4000 vehicles for integration into Translink’s existing fleet of Class 400 diesel multiple units.
  • Advising Transport for Wales on the approval of rolling stock leases and maintenance arrangements for the new Wales and Border Rail Services and South Wales Metro.
  • Advising West Midlands Trains during franchise mobilisation on existing rolling stock, including leases, maintenance arrangements and fleet upgrade programmes, together with the procurement of six Class 230 diesel electric multiple units from Vivarail.
  • Advising First MTR South Western Trains on the procurement of 90 new Bombardier Aventra electric multiple units for the South Western Railway franchise and advising on all existing rolling stock matters during franchise mobilisation.
  • Advising FirstGroup train operating companies on various new fleet acquisitions and rolling stock matters, including Hull Trains, TransPennine Express and Great Western Railway.
  • Advising Merseyrail on the procurement of 52 Stadler electric multiple units, including the transfer of Merseyrail’s existing maintenance operation to Stadler.
