About

Becca joined Burges Salmon as a trainee in 2020 and qualified as a solicitor into the firm’s Pensions and Lifetime Savings team in 2022. Prior to this, Becca was a freelance French-English translator and interpreter and so has a particular interest in pensions work with an international aspect.

Since joining the team, Becca has built up a wealth of experience in advising pension scheme trustees, sponsoring employers and other organisations on a wide range of pensions issues. Her experience includes advising on matters relating to day-to-day pension scheme governance and projects such as bulk transfers, corporate restructurings, benefit changes, historic documentation issues, GMP equalisation, buy-ins and buy-outs, use of surplus and winding up. Becca also has experience in advising on regulatory issues and exploring ways to reduce pensions risk on cross-border M&A transactions.

Experience

  • Multinational company: Advising in the context of a time-critical cross-border transaction on options for a distressed UK subsidiary’s pensions obligations and risk transfer project.
  • AT&T ISTEL Pension Plan: Advising on all UK pensions legal matters related to the running of the scheme.
  • University of Oxford Staff pension scheme: Advising in relation to all day-to-day defined benefit and defined contribution matters including ensuring ongoing compliance with the Master Trust regime.
  • Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office: Advising on the pensions aspects of a major facilities management project.
  • Buy-ins and buy-outs: Advising on multiple buy-in and buy-out transactions including in relation to use of surplus and winding-up.
  • Confidential projects: Advising in relation to a broad range of issues including complex historic documentation issues and the impact on scheme benefits, advice in relation to member cases, scheme closure advice, and drafting bespoke documents.
