About

Ben attended the University of Bristol from 2018-2021, studying an undergraduate degree in Law. From 2022-2023, he completed the Legal Practice Course with an MSc in Law, Business and Management, graduating with a distinction. In August 2023, he joined Burges Salmon as a trainee in the Banking and Finance team.

During his time as a trainee, Ben has held seats in Banking and Finance, Pensions and Lifetime Savings and Dispute Resolution. He has also held a seat on secondment to the in-house legal team of a large national energy provider.

Since joining the firm, he has joined the firm’s charity fundraising team to help deliver ‘Burges Salmon’s Got Talent’, volunteered with Heart of BS13 and participated in the business mentoring programme with Envision.

Experience

  • TagEnergy: Advising a club of lenders on the construction financing of battery energy storage assets.
  • Secondment to an in-house team of national energy provider: Reviewing and drafting key supplier contracts within a complex and evolving regulatory landscape.
  • Reviewing agreements: Advising on and reviewing significant agreements to the transfer of large decommissioned energy-production assets to public authorities.
  • Pension schemes: Advising defined benefit pension schemes on complex issues regarding surplus payment tax, wind-up, buy-ins/buy-outs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Litigation: Assisting with complicated litigation in the energy, commercial, pensions and agricultural sectors.
  • Mentoring: Participating in the Envision mentoring programme.
