Overview

Hilary joined Burges Salmon in 2020. She has considerable experience of a broad range of corporate tax matters and particular expertise in corporate and financing transactions, reorganisations and group tax advice. Hilary advises the full range of clients, from large public and private multinational groups to funds and family owned businesses, across a number of sectors. Most of Hilary’s work has an international element.

Hilary is an active member of the City of London Law Society’s Revenue Law Committee and sits on the Consulting Editorial Board for LexisPSL Tax. She is also a member of the International Bar Association and the International Fiscal Association.

Hilary has written for The Tax Journal and a number of other tax and industry publications.

Experience

Recent highlights include advising:

  • corporate groups, private equity funds and founders on mergers and acquisitions,
  • a NYSE listed group on an international joint venture and energy from waste investments,
  • a listed group on a placing and debt restructuring,
  • lenders and borrowers on a wide range of debt financing transactions including facility agreements, bond issuances and structured finance arrangements,
  • a rail lessor on the financing arrangements for a major order of new rolling stock,
  • a battery storage business on a receivables financing to facilitate the introduction of a new fleet of electric buses,
  • major multinational groups on their group restructurings, corporate residence and governance issues, financing and intellectual property arrangements and transfer pricing,
  • a range of clients on tax enquiries and disputes, and
  • on operational taxes including FATCA, CRS and DAC 6.
