About

Ian heads the firm’s Corporate Tax team, part of the firm’s wider Tax team, and advises on all areas of corporate, real estate, financial and funds taxation, including:

  • Mergers and acquisitions
  • Corporate reconstructions
  • Financing arrangements
  • Investment structures and funds
  • Property development and investment
  • VAT, stamp duty and SDLT

His clients include companies and their shareholders, financial and other institutions, funds and public bodies. He advises on a wide range of UK and international transactions.

He is a member of the Law Society’s Corporation Tax Sub Committee and Stamp Taxes Working Group, and is also a member of the Stamp Taxes Practitioners Group.

Experience

  • Companies and shareholders: Advising in relation to the tax aspects of corporate M&A transactions (including W&I backed transactions), business sales and joint venture arrangements.
  • Tax structuring advice: Including in relation to debt and equity investments, as well as in relation to corporate reorganisations and restructurings.
  • Property development and acquisition transactions: Providing tax advice on property development and acquisition transactions, as well as on the acquisition or disposal of agricultural estates and property portfolios.
  • Lenders and borrowers: Tax advice on all types of financing transactions, including debt restructurings.
  • Investment structures: Providing tax advice in relation to investment structures, including in relation to authorised fund mergers and the establishment of authorised contractual schemes.
